YOU KNOW YOU'RE A WORSHIP LEADER WHEN

In my ten years of playing acoustic guitar with three worship teams, I have learned that you know you're a worship leader when:
  • You forget to bring your sheet music on to the stage and decide to tell your band, "We'll just wing it." (This never works out well by the way.)
  • You ask every other instrumentalist if he or she is in tune before realizing that you're the one who is out of tune.
  • You lower the key of every Chris Tomlin song.
  • You pick a song in the key of Bb and tell your guitarists, "We're just going to capo this on three."
  • One of your instrumentalists corrects you by saying, "This F#m you wrote is actually supposed to be a D/F#." to which you shrug and reply, "Same thing, right?"
  • The church copy machine breaks down ten minutes before the service.
  • You ask the sound guy why your guitar isn't coming through the monitors and then realize you're not even plugged in.
  • Your band doesn't always understand your hand motions and facial expressions for "repeat chorus" or "we're ending the song here."
  • You drop your guitar pick halfway through a song.
  • You keep a guitar effects pedalboard on stage just to look cool and contemporary. (You have no idea how the dang thing works.)
  • You raise the key of every Phil Wickam song.
  • You tell your drummer, "Just remember, this song is in 4/4" and then start playing it in 6/8.
  • You choose your set list in accordance with what the pastor will be preaching on.
  • You're a pro at getting tangled up in your guitar cord and have come close to tripping more than once.
  • Playing with your worship team feels like hanging out with close friends and family!

You start looking around at the band with a stink face because someone seems to be playing the wrong chords.....wait it's me.
