As President Obama cleans the dirt from his cleats and bags up his nine-irons, we’re witnessing the rise of pure evil in the formation of the terror group ISIS. For far too long, Western leaders have cowered before Muslim extremism, too timid to condemn radical jihadist Islam for fear of being labeled “intolerant.” This has to stop.
Evil doesn’t care about labels. Evil is just evil. It knows no cultural stereotypes or societal cliches. You can’t just ignore evil and expect it to go away. You can’t play a game of noninterference and expect to win. The Obama administration is like the kickoff punt returner who catches the ball and decides to stand still, staring at the sky in some sort of confused daze, while a group of 300-pound defensive linemen stampede down the field. This sort of scenario usually doesn’t end well for the punt returner. He’ll be vomiting dirt and grass until halftime.
The president can’t claim to be caught off guard. He saw this threat coming. We all did. You don’t need hi-powered binoculars to see 5,000 ISIS militants gearing up for war in training camps that make Al-Qaeda’s look like elementary school playgrounds. You just have to watch the news. (Something Mr. Obama admits he does all the time.) Or better yet, you have to listen to your national security advisors. But that would require meeting with them. Which would require stepping off the green. Which would require parking your golf cart. And that’s too bad, because golf is more fun than being presidential. So you might as well limber up for that next shot and hope that the press get bored and leave you alone.
But it’s hard for the press to ignore a president who, last Wednesday, mere minutes after addressing the nation on the brutal, grotesque beheading of American journalist James Foley at the hands of ISIS, returns to the golf course, afraid he will miss his 1:06PM tee time. In fact, the president’s press conference was at 12:57PM. At 1:05PM, he was stepping onto the green at Martha’s Vineyard’s Farm Neck Golf Club, while the family of James Foley, sobbing, took questions from reporters at their own press conference.
Think about that.
In the span of eight minutes, your president, in full suit and tie, spoke unemotionally to the nation about an American mercilessly executed by terrorists, left the podium, changed out of his suit and into khakis and a polo, rounded up his golf clubs, donned his ball cap and shades, hopped into Golf Cart One, and managed to make tee time with one minute to spare. Astonishing.
Meanwhile, back at the Foley family press conference, a tearful John and Diane Foley praised their slain son for his “commitment to the people who were trying to become free.”
So, as James’s parents uttered these words, our president was already gripping his putter.
This is as low as it gets, people. The President of the United States can’t even put aside his golf game for long enough to pay respect to an American who died at the hands of ruthless terrorists.
Even worse — he has absolutely no strategy to deal with ISIS. He said as much at a press conference today. (Thursday.)
“We are not taking military action to solve the Ukrainian problem. I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We don’t have a strategy yet.”
You just can’t make this stuff up. Does the president not see what’s happening?
Radical Islamic militants have slaughtered an American journalist. They’ve promised to kill more Americans. They’ve promised to not stop until the flag of the caliphate, the flag of Allah, is flying atop the White House. They’ve recruited Americans to fight for their cause. And our president doesn’t even have the testicular fortitude to order one massive airstrike to wipe ISIS off the face of the earth.
What the crap is he waiting for?
On the eve of Foley’s beheading, the Obama administration should have immediately given ISIS a 24 hour notice to get all women and children out of the area before obliterating the entire region — whether ISIS complied with that warning or not. The national security of the United States is supposed to be the president’s top priority. He’s the commander of the greatest military force on the planet and our airstrike capabilities alone would have been more than enough to decimate ISIS.
Instead, we have a president so immersed in his own ideology — that America is at the source of all these problems in the Middle East — that he refuses to send a clear message to terrorists. He, and countless Americans, operate under a false and dangerous belief that we can somehow “convert” these Islamic radicals into civil people by simply exposing them to the American way of life.
Are you freaking kidding me?
We let them enter our country. (Legally and illegally, mind you.) We watch as they build mosques, many of which are funded by governments from countries like Saudi Arabia — mosques that preach Wahhbism, a radical brand of Islam that promises to kill those who do not convert. We sit and twiddle our thumbs while an army of Islamic radicals train for attacks on U.S. soil.
And now, we have ISIS militants and terror cells alive and well in the United States. We have ISIS militants with legitimate American and British passports. We have a group that is the most well-funded, well-armed and heavily manned Islamic terror organization in global history — far more dangerous than Al Qaeda ever hoped to be.
And we have a president whose head isn’t in the sand; it’s in his golf bag. He’s incompetent. He’s wildly ideological. He’s misinformed. He's rushing off to fundraise. He’s disconnected from reality. He’s jeopardizing the safety of the nation.
And he's bored.
Now isn’t the time for golf, Mr. President. The eyes of the world are watching and waiting for your next move — and that includes the eyes of ISIS.
What message does your ill-timed golf game send to Americans? To the family of James Foley? To the media?
What message does it send to our enemies? To ISIS? To the world?
You can't bring a nine-iron to a gun fight, Mr. President.
