On Monday, I attended a rather patriotic event in my town. I suspect many folks across the country were doing the same thing. This particular shindig happened to be a concert performance by a local orchestral band playing just a few feet from the USS Alabama battleship. I could say that I only went because my brother is one of the percussionists, but the truth is that I was actually looking forward to listening to the music and watching the incredible fireworks show. I admit that I wasn’t in a particularly patriotic mood going in, but by the end of the night I was ready to climb Mount Everest, raise an American flag at the summit and sing the National Anthem at the top of my lungs. “This must be what it feels like to take pride in one’s country,” I thought to myself.
The next day, any momentary, fleeting sense of pride that I felt was completely obliterated by a jerk named James Comey — the director of the FBI. By the way, if you’re taking notes, that stands for Federal Bureau of Investigations, which really seems to be a contradiction in terms these days, but we’ll get to that in a minute. As you’re undoubtedly aware by now, Comey held a press conference on Tuesday and recommended that no criminal charges be brought against Hillary Clinton, despite spending over 10 minutes explaining in great detail all of the laws that she broke and all of the lies that she told. Indeed, it wasn’t until the last five minutes of this 15 minute presser that he essentially said: Oh, by the way, we’re not going to hold her accountable for any of that.
In case you’re wondering, the “that” in this case happens to be the fact that Mrs. Clinton electronically sent and received over 100 pieces of classified information from multiple private servers, including eight e-mails that were deemed top secret at the time, many of which she deleted and then lied about, saying she never deleted them. Comey also confirmed that “hostile actors” might have even gained access to some of this top secret information, which, as you can imagine, would have jeopardized national security and potentially endangered the lives of millions of Americans. He also confirmed that Hillary sent and received government e-mails on those private servers while overseas, in relatively close proximity to the territories of “sophisticated adversaries.” But, as it turns out, this sort of thing only amounts to Hillary being “extremely careless.” As far as he’s concerned, she didn’t actually violate any laws or statutes regarding the handling of classified information, despite all the evidence that points to the contrary.
That’s the whole point: All of the evidence — which Comey himself outlined and listed for ten minutes on national television — does prove that Hillary lied and does prove that Hillary broke the law. For God’s sake, the director of the FBI has confirmed it. Not only that, but it proves that she lied repeatedly and broke the law repeatedly. At one point, Comey even mentioned that people who have committed similar crimes might eventually face legal consequences for their actions: “To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences.”
And yet these laws, we’re told, will not apply to Queen Hillary. They can apply to everyone else, to peons like me and you, but not Hillary. After all, Hillary is above the law and if you think that’s unfair, we don’t care. That’s literally what these despots are telling us: We don’t care what you think and we don’t care if you see how corrupt we are. We’re not even going to hide it anymore.
Now, plenty has been said about the implications that all of this will have for the future of law and justice in our country and that’s certainly a conversation worth having. But, I’d like to shift the discussion for a minute and focus on all of the folks who will still be supporting and voting for this corrupt woman even in the face of this latest news.
What’s really the most troubling is how little many Americans actually care about Hillary’s crimes — particularly all of her sycophantic adoring fans. Even after hearing all the evidence and seeing the truth, knowing beyond a shred of doubt that she’s guilty, they’re still screaming, “To Hell with it! I stand with Hillary!” Political scandals like this one should spark debate and outrage for decades and should go down in every history textbook printed over the next 50 years, but sadly we live in a society where people have the attention spans of gnats. These are the folks who are so wrapped up in watching cat videos on YouTube and posting TimeHop photos to Facebook that they’re completely oblivious to the political and moral decay of their own country. Here we are just a couple of days after the press conference and the story isn’t even trending on social media anymore. We’ve moved on to more important things like the new Spider-Man movie and some model who posed nude for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. Yes, a naked woman and a comic book character have overshadowed a despicable, evil, power-drunk politician who broke five federal laws and put the entire country at risk in the process.
I confess there’s a part of me that wishes I could blame all the indifference on Hollywood and the Internet. That would certainly be easier to stomach. And it would be a lot more fun too. But, it goes much deeper than simple distraction and lackadaisical apathy. The real problem is far more dismal and depressing: We are no longer citizens who defend truth with conviction. We’re no longer people willing to guard our liberty passionately. We no longer believe zealously in our founding principles and our laws. We no longer demand justice and accountability from our government. Throw all of these ingredients together into a cauldron, stir vigorously and you’re bound to get witches, er, politicians like Hillary Clinton — who’s so corrupt and depraved that she probably wouldn’t be able to land a supervisory job at the Postal Service or management at Taco Bell.
To support Hillary at this point — knowing everything that we do —just makes you a bad, reckless, ignorant, stupid American. To march into the polls like mindless, subservient cattle and intentionally vote for a woman who is openly advertising her corruption is nothing short of unpatriotic and dangerous. Hillary is the very antithesis of our nation’s founding principals, the very antithesis of morality, truth and integrity, and a vote for her is a vote for tyranny and authoritarianism.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want that tyranny reigning down on me and my family for the next eight years. To keep that from happening, we have to stop voting these narcissistic dictators into office. We might not be able to keep them from amassing power, but we can at least stop handing it to them on a silver platter.
