It seems that the Christmas haters never sleep, tire, or grow weary of waging war on the December holidays and all things Christmas-related. Let’s review: This year alone they’ve already accused the latest rendition of “The Grinch” as being classist; “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” as racist; the song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” as advocating rape and sexual assault; and claimed “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” is homophobic, sexist, abusive, and encourages bullying.
In more recent days, they’ve also gone after a Three Wise Men display at a local elementary school in Newaygo, Michigan, demanding that it be removed for its religious connotations. Jennifer Sinclair — the principal at Manchester Elementary School in Elkhorn, Nebraska — even went so far as to ban Santa Claus, elves, and candy canes, the latter of which she argues are in the shape of a “J” which obviously stands for “Jesus.”
I confess that I’m actually a bit envious of the Left’s stamina. It will be a Christmas miracle if I have enough energy just to go gift shopping. Meanwhile these folks are exerting incredible amounts of physical, mental, and emotional energy engaging in cultural subversion and ideological grandstanding in the hopes of abolishing all things festive, fun, and traditional. It’s quite a spectacle really.
Truthfully, they’re not offended in the least. This is more about attention-seeking than it is about fairness. And, even more hilarious, they look like utter buffoons in the process, as the rest of us are just sipping on our hot coco and enjoying time with our families by the Christmas tree, laughing at their stupidity.
Anyway, it seems that the progressive radicals are putting on their big boy pants now. As I mentioned recently on my Facebook Page, they’ve moved on from criticizing kids’ cartoons of promoting rape to accusing God himself of committing sexual assault upon the Virgin Mary by impregnating her without her consent. Behold a recent tweet from Minnesota State University professor of psychology Eric Sprankle, who is also known for decorating his personal Christmas trees in Satanic ornaments:
Yes, this officially confirms it. God is a rapist. That’s it. Case closed. I’m convinced.
Sprankle goes on to accuse God of acting in a “grossly predatory” manner and says, “To put someone [Mary] in this position is an unethical abuse of power at best…”
Normally these would be the sort of shallow platitudes and drunken bromides I would expect to hear from an agnostic college freshman at four o’clock in the morning as he feverishly pecks away at his keyboard and tweets senseless thoughts into the abyss of the Internet. But this is no freshman with a hangover. This is a salaried academic professor at a taxpayer-funded university. Moreover, he’s an adult who should know better than to childishly troll religions during their holiest of seasons.
Am I the only one who misses the days when educated atheists actually took their own arguments seriously enough to support them with halfway decent philosophical reasonings that were somewhat grounded and well-established? At least such methodology provided room for constructive debate and discussion regarding biblical and spiritual issues. This notion that perhaps God shacked up with the Virgin Mary at His place over apple cider while a recording of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” softly played in the background is nothing short of utterly laughable, not to mention heretical and blasphemous.
Besides, not only did Mary offer up a hymn of thanksgiving for being chosen by God to give birth to the Messiah, she also consented in Luke 1:38 when she said to the angel, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
She didn’t argue. She didn’t protest. She didn’t resist. In fact, she not only agreed, but was thankful and worshipful. That’s consent. Moreover, a sovereign and “all-powerful” God doesn’t particularly need our consent for anything that He chooses to do.
Sorry, Sprankle, but I’m afraid you’ll have to try harder next time. Also, I can’t help but wonder how things would go if you started making such outlandish and false accusations against other religions and gods, such as — let’s see — Islam and Muhammed.
Then again, I guess Sprankle and other leftists wouldn’t dare do such a thing. After all, there’s not really a “war on Christmas” (or religion) in the first place, right?
