Well, here we are about a week into the new year and already Mr. Obama has lectured us on the nonsensical issue of gun control twice. I say ‘nonsensical’ because, well, I honestly don’t approach this whole debate from a political perspective. It’s not a political debate. It’s not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. In fact it’s a concept so far removed from reality that the only thing liberals have left in their corner are emotional arguments utterly devoid of logic, reason, facts or truth. And that’s exactly what we saw earlier this week and last night.
The president made headlines on Tuesday when he unveiled his new slate of gun legislation that one can only assume is designed to stop murder, eradicate all evil and badness in the universe, while simultaneously healing the depraved and sinful nature of mankind. No? Ok. Well, then I guess all that he accomplished was cramming legislation down our throats, forcing law-abiding gun owners to fill out more paperwork and jump through more hoops to prove that they’re actually law-abiding gun owners. Of course, the drooling, sycophantic media was more focused on Obama’s tears — which he shed rather conveniently while referencing the children who died during the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. In what was obviously one of the most theatrical speeches of his presidency, Obama spent over half an hour scolding Republicans and lambasting the National Rifle Association for being opposed to policies that will apparently save America — all while flanked by families of murder victims who have now been turned into political props. Rubbing tears from his eyes, Obama said: “Every time I think about those kids [from Newtown] it gets me mad…We need voters who want safer gun laws, and who are disappointed in leaders who stand in their way, to remember come election time.”
So, apparently you can’t be pro-2nd Amendment and simultaneously care about innocent children. I mean, did you catch that? Leftism is equating being anti-unconstitutional gun control with being pro-dead kids. Astonishing. Then again, this is the sort of thing they do all the time. If you’re against unrestricted welfare, you hate the poor. If you’re pro-life, you hate women. If you’re anti-gay marriage, you’re homophobic. If you express the slightest bit of concern about the enormous out-of-wedlock African American birth rate, you’re a racist. And, if you believe Bruce Jenner is still a man, you’re a bigot. So, basically, try not to adhere to any sort of value system at all and make sure that every opinion you form is controlled by your emotions. Deal? Ok, great.
Anyway, in a CNN-televised town hall meeting held last night, Obama railed against the NRA once again, blaming them for the recent surge in gun sales across the country: “Part of the reason is that the NRA has convinced many of its members that somebody is going to come get your guns.” So, yes, this is all just conspiracy theory, folks. I’m not coming to get your guns, I’m just going to make it impossible for you to actually purchase them. Wonderful. Thanks for clearing that up, sir.
Now that we’ve established Obama’s ignorance and idiocy on this issue (the man even openly admitted that he’s never owned a gun), I’d like to pass along a few broader and more important points:
1.) Gun control is meaningless, pointless and ultimately futile because no law against an object has ever led to the eradication or limitation of that object.
This seems to be something that liberals just can’t wrap their brains around, but there’s no arguing that it’s an indisputable reality. Moreover, it usually works with the opposite effect — the more the government tries to ban, control or limit a particular substance or object, the more sought after and popular that substance or object often becomes. This is why gun sales have skyrocketed over the last seven days. It has nothing to do with the NRA and everything to do with a president who continues to make gun ownership more difficult. So, whether it’s Big Gulp sodas, marijuana, offensive trigger words like “bossy” or handguns and rifles, it’s all ultimately a futile effort on the part of progressive liberals to ban, moderate or control stuff. Moreover, stricter gun legislation, enhanced background checks and all of the paperwork in the world will not deter criminals from committing senseless acts of violence. By their very definition as criminals, they are lawless and therefore do not play by the rules. I would say that this is obvious, but then again liberals seem to ignore obvious truths.
It’s also worth pointing out here that in many of the mass shootings that have occurred over the last few years, the shooter had little or no history of violence. No background check or paperwork blockade could have predicted or prevented tragedies like Columbine or Newtown. If an evil individual is hellbent on carrying out a mass murder, I would assume that he isn’t going to let something like a silly little gun law stop him from doing it. If you don’t have a spiritual or moral compass, you’re probably not worried about the potential ramifications of breaking the law, particularly if you’re just going to kill yourself at the end of your heinous act of violence anyway.
2.) Obama and the progressive Left cannot claim to care about dead children while simultaneously funding and supporting abortion.
Well, technically, I suppose that they can, because, they’re doing it now. But, it’s a ridiculous and horrifically hypocritical position on their part. I admit that I’ve wrestled with how any pro-abortion liberal can claim to care about innocent children and somehow justify their stance on the slaughter of the unborn. The only conclusion I’ve come to is that, since most pro-abortion folks do not believe abortion is the termination of a human life (it’s just a “medical procedure” they say), it’s then perfectly acceptable in their minds to espouse care and concern for innocent kids while simultaneously funding, celebrating, supporting, promoting and glorifying the death cult of abortion. You see, for them it’s just a women’s rights issue and they’re more than content to ignore the scientific proof that abortion truly is the equivalent of baby murder.
Things get a little murky and even more hypocritical here though when you consider that President Obama actually voted against a bill that would have guaranteed protection of babies born alive during botched abortion procedures. Frankly, I’m baffled at how this man can shed tears over the deaths of innocent schoolchildren, but not care about the life of a child who is born fully alive. How can this man tell Americans to exhibit “courage” “love” and “sacrifice” when it comes to protecting kids, while he continues to fund and support Planned Parenthood’s ongoing infanticidal bloodbath — where babies are chopped up and then sold like livestock?
Let me be clear: I would love nothing more than to give Mr. Obama the benefit of the doubt here, but as the old cliche goes: Actions speak louder than words (or tears.) The president can cry a thousand rivers on national television, but until he exhibits a concern for the over 300,000 children murdered every year under the faux guise of “women’s health,” I just can’t and won’t believe a word he says. As far as I’m concerned for now, it’s all just political pandering and disgusting theatrics.
3.) Gun control is a constitutional, intellectual and logical issue, not an emotional one.
This might seem like a redundant point, but I think it’s worth reemphasizing. Liberals love to ditch logic, common sense, truth, facts and statistics and instead manipulate and prey upon the emotions of uneducated Americans. Rotten politicians like Obama know that if they can tug on your heartstrings by trotting out some parents who lost their children to a mindless, deranged madman who shot up a classroom full of children, they’re more likely to gain your support for their gun legislation. Ironically, nothing that the president has unveiled this week — NOTHING — would have stopped tragedies like Columbine or Newtown. In fact, most of the executive action measures that he introduced are nothing more than reworded versions of policies that already exist. So, now we’re back to futile and pointless.
Obama wants you to believe that his concern is sincere and his tears are a genuine reflection of that concern. But, the debate about gun rights and the 2nd Amendment is not rooted in or based on emotion. It’s important to keep all of this in context and, more importantly, to recognize and rebuke the unforgivable hypocrisy of our president where the lives of unborn children are concerned.
Until and the progressive Left acknowledges that unborn babies have just as much of a right to life and liberty as the kids swinging from monkey bars at the elementary school down the street, I can’t and won’t take their absurd and nonsensical arguments on gun control seriously in any regard.
And you should’t either.
