Do you know why this story has yet to vanish into the black hole of media suppressed scandals? Because it has layers. It's got more layers than a Paula Deen lasagna.
Think about everything you've seen on TV for the last couple of weeks. The media has been all over this story. They're talking about Bergdahl's family. They're interviewing his platoon mates. (Well, smearing.) They're discussing Stockholm syndrome. They're analyzing the Taliban. They're analyzing the government of Qatar. They're talking about court-martials, conspiracies and beards.
By this time next year, you'll be buying a ticket to "What Difference Does It Make? -- The Bowe Bergdahl Story." (Co-produced by Hillary Clinton, of course.)
Just when you think there's nothing left to discuss, another layer is peeled back and we're treated to more beefy goodness.
But one thing the lamestream media seems content to ignore (and distract from) is what this prisoner swap reveals (or, really, reinforces) about President Obama's view of America. This trade was not about getting an American soldier back. (A soldier who apparently deserted, sought out the Taliban and may have even collaborated with the enemy.) This trade was about Obama's mission to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. He's been trying to shut it down since 2009. So when the opportunity arose to trade five Gitmo prisoners for an American soldier, Obama seized it.
Never mind the fact that the five guys we released are senior level Taliban terrorists. (Some military analysts refer to them as Taliban four-star generals.)
Never mind the fact that President Obama was advised not to make this deal.
Never mind that these terrorists will be returning to Afghanistan within the next few months and will be free to rejoin the Taliban.
Never mind that the administration knew Bergdahl had deserted.
Never mind that the president broke the law by choosing not to notify Congress before the trade.
Never mind that the president has now jeopardized the national security of the United States.
You see, in Obama's view, America really has no right to detain those guys anyway. We're not supposed to be the world's police. We shouldn't even be a superpower. (It's no wonder his administration has been reducing our military to pre-WWII levels.) This prisoner swap is just the latest example in Obama's six-year long mission to "fundamentally transform" America -- which is really just his fancy way of saying "shrink" America down to size. (Remember his comments about American exceptionalism?) America is the mean bully on the block and if we will just step out of the way, other countries will take care of themselves. Countries like, um, Afghanistan? Iraq? Iran?
To Obama, the influence and domination of the U.S. is the reason that there's so much trouble in the world. If we'll all just play nice and get out of the way, bad people like the Taliban won't pick on us anymore. (You would have to be on drugs to subscribe to this sort of idiocy.)
Think about it. This is the guy who grew up with a father whose anticolonial views of the British radically influenced his eventual view of America. This is the guy who sat under men like Frank Marshall Davis, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Edward Said and Roberto Unger. This is the guy who can barely make a speech without apologizing for something that America has supposedly done wrong. (Like imprison convicted terrorists?) Is it any wonder that he makes decisions within the prisms of anti-colonialism and socialism? It's all he's ever known.
It's obvious that Obama is on a mission. He's also in a hurry. He's got two years left to do what he had hoped to have eight years to do. (That stupid thing called the Constitution keeps getting in his way.) If the decision to release convicted Taliban terrorists is any indication of what is to come in the next two years, I fear not only for America's physical safety, but for her cultural, social and spiritual stability as well.
