As you might have recently heard, pathological liar and egomaniacal faux-journalist Brian Williams has been given a job over at MSNBC, where he’ll get to hang out with other flaming-liberal-lying-hypocrites like Al Sharpton and Chris Matthews. Mr. Williams was suspended back in February when it was discovered that he blatantly falsified and laughably exaggerated the details of several events he has covered throughout the course of his career. As punishment, Williams was “demoted” from his anchor chair at NBC Nightly News, spent six months in broadcast purgatory and then got a swift kick in the pants, sending him flying over to MSNBC — that embarrassment of a news network that averages about 500,000 viewers per night. If you do the math, that equals out to roughly five percent of the audience he was garnering over at NBC News. In fact, one analyst concluded that, based on MSNBC’s horrific ratings, Brian would have to stay on the air for 24 hours straight — or more — just to “get the penetration of a single half-hour newscast.” The fact that this network is even still alive is nothing short of a miracle. Seriously, it’s a joke. As further “punishment,” Williams’s annual salary was slashed from $15 million per year to $10 million per year. (Quick! Someone put the man on food stamps before he starves to death!)
Anyway, if you keep up with cable news at all, then you’re probably aware that MSNBC is basically the toilet bowl of the airwaves — a putrid hellhole of journalistic sewage so far removed from anything that even remotely resembles factual reporting that it’s the butt of every cheesy joke in the biz. This newscasting septic tank is where Mr. Williams will make his new home.
Honestly, Williams’s survival is just as unsurprising as his lies. After all, he’s a liberal progressive journalist. (I’m using that last word rather loosely.) Supposedly, he’s going to be the lead breaking news guy over there — MSNBC’s obvious attempt to put him in competition with FOX NEWS’s Shepard Smith. (Good luck with that, guys. Shep even broadcasts from the bridge of the Enterprise.) The sad reality is that although Williams should have been reduced to a media outcast so shamed by a battered reputation that he wouldn’t even make the shortlist for office cocktail parties, he’ll actually be doing just fine. In any other similar situation involving such a hi-profile individual (like a conservative media personality) this would be astonishing. But, Brian is a liberal zealot and he’ll be working for the network that essentially hires and manufactures other liberal zealots. It’s a match made in Heaven. (Or maybe Hell, depending on your opinion of MSNBC.)
Rumor has it that Williams will be starting some sort of long-winded and rather pointless “apology tour” as part of his return to the limelight. I’m not sure why progressive are so obsessed with apology tours, but it’s really getting old. For his first interview, Brian sat down with his old chum and colleague Matt Lauer on the “Today” show, where he openly admitted that his ego was at the source of his decision to lie about his career over the span of several years. (It’s amazing that he got away with it for as long as he did.) Williams mentioned that his months-long suspension has been “torture,” but, in true liberal form, conveniently left out any details about the career falsehoods he knowingly perpetuated.
Perhaps the most deplorable of his lies was the fairytale about his helicopter coming under rocket-propelled grenade attacks while reporting overseas during the start of the Iraq war. It turns out that was a load of crap, as was his claim of flying into Baghdad with the Navy Seal Team 6. The list goes on and on with allegations that he greatly exaggerated his reporting on Hurricane Katrina and his extended time spent in New Orleans during the aftermath of the storm.
This is all just business as usual for progressive media buffoons like Brian.
Hilariously, Brian’s narcissism is so out of control that the guy still won’t admit he lied about anything. When Lauer pressed him to answer the question, Williams simply responded with, “That’s not what happened.”
Looking at the bigger picture, it’s obvious that Brian Williams is just the latest person driven to the brink of insanity by the tenets of modern liberal progressivism — this idea that you can be whoever you want to be, whenever you want to be it, and everyone else just has to accept it as reality. And if they don’t, they’re immediately branded bigots, racists, homophobic, sexists or right-wing conservative extremist hate-mongers. It’s this ideological disease that somehow inspires every progressive to wage an all-out war on Truth. They’ve been doing it for decades, and this is where it leads: to faking ethnicities, faking careers, faking genders and just about anything else you don’t like about yourself or want to lie about. This is the crux of liberalism and, to be frank, it’s really not all that shocking anymore. In fact, it’s to the point where it’s expected.
You see, liberals like the ones at MSNBC like to push a progressive narrative that says your emotions and selfish desires outweigh any need to adhere to a sense of morality and integrity, particularly when it’s to your advantage to lie. This is exactly what Brian Williams did and, ironically, it came around to bite him in the ass, albeit temporarily. The poor guy was humiliated, for a brief time, but now it’s almost as if nothing even happened.
In a few months, everyone will have forgotten about Brian and moved on to the next media spectacle. After all, that’s what this is about — spectacle. Our culture is obsessed with these sort of real-life soap operas. Maybe the real question we should be asking is not ‘Why did Brian Williams lie?’ but rather, ‘Why do we put these bloviating broadcast blowhards up on a pedestal and then act utterly flabbergasted when they topple over and plunge to their death?' I mean, a few of them are fair and accurate in their reporting, but in general, they’ve all conveniently exaggerated, stretched or ignored the truth at some point in their careers, particularly the ones who make a living by giving their opinion on the news of the day. It doesn’t make it right, but I think it shows just how much our culture invests in flawed human beings who are just as sinful, fallible and corruptible as the rest of us. Granted, Brian is not a commentary anchor. He’s supposed to be a hard news anchor, which means we tend to expect more from him — we expect truth and accuracy.
Ultimately, however, Brian Williams has landed right where he belongs — working alongside some of the most deranged liars in the biz — from Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow to Chris Mathews and Al Sharpton.
No one is watching MSNBC for news. No one is watching for accurate reporting. The whole network is a joke.
The only thing they’re looking for is progressive liberal activism dressed up like journalism.
And that’s why he’ll fit right in.
Welcome home, Brian. Welcome home.
